Are there restrictions on who can ride?
Our events are always designed to be as inclusive as possible. There are a very small number of restrictions that are imposed purely for safety reasons. Riders cannot take part if:
- they are under eight years old
- they are pregnant
- they have a heart condition.
There are also a small number of size limitations:
- riders must be more than 1.2m (3ft 11in) tall and less than 2.1m (6ft 11in) tall to fit into the harness
- riders can weigh no more than 120 kg due to the restrictions of the harnesses.
Children (aged 8 – 15) must be accompanied by a riding adult – max ratio:
LONDON – 3 children to 1 adult
CARDIFF – 1 child to 1 adult
More detailed information can be found here.
When do I need to arrive?
Please arrive promptly for your booked ride time, remembering to allow enough time to find our location and the check-in point.
If you arrive a bit early, let one of the team know as we may be able to accommodate you, however latecomers cannot be admitted, rescheduled or refunded.
How long does it take?
From check-in to de-kitting, the full experience can take as little as 45 minutes on a quiet day.
On busier summer days and weekends, the full process can take about 90 minutes, so please be aware of this when making other reservations or transport arrangements.
In LONDON, Repeat Zips and/or Mega Drops will increase the length of your experience. The zip wire ride itself takes about 20-30 seconds from launch to brakes.
In CARDIFF, you will land across the bay near the Norwegian Church (the start point is voco St David’s Cardiff Hotel). If you’ve not brought any bags with you, you’ll be able to head on from the landing point, but if you have left items at check-in, you’ll need to walk about 850 metres or so back to the hotel. The zip wire ride itself takes about 40-45 seconds from launch to brakes.
What should I wear?
Wear something comfortable and appropriate for the weather, but avoid dresses or skirts.
Make sure your footwear has flat soles with a good grip and do not wear heels, sandals, flip-flops or slip-on shoes.
Jewellery must be removed (we can tape up rings) and carried with you or secured in a locker.
Please also make sure long hair is tied back/out of your face.
Are there storage facilities?
You will be provided with a pouch for valuables which is secured to your harness for the ride.
Lockers are also available (free of charge) for small bags and jackets. For CARDIFF bear in mind that leaving items in lockers will mean you have to walk back round the bay to the start point after your ride.
Please avoid bringing larger bags/cases as we do not have secure storage available for these.
Are there toilets?
Yes, toilet facilities are available at all of our events.
Can I bring a camera?
Handheld cameras and phones are welcome but they must be kept in the secure pouches we provide for the ride itself.
Action cams such as GoPros are permitted provided they are used in conjunction with our approved wrist strap, which you can purchase and keep on the day.
Customers’ own action camera mounts and selfie sticks are not permitted – the reason for this is that we are unable to safely test the integrity of your mounts in a live environment and cannot accept the risk of a device dropping.
In 2018 we tested several different mounts and found that the only one to work reliably was the wrist strap which we now sell.
Can spectators watch and take pictures from the ground?
Absolutely, we positively encourage it.
We restrict the kitting up areas to riders only, but there is plenty of space in/around our locations for spectators.
What if I decide not to ride?
Giant Zip Wires are designed to take people out of their comfort zone and experience a sense of adventure and adrenaline.
LONDON – the launch tower is 35 metres high, that’s about 8 double decker buses, so we fully expect that some riders will struggle to launch.
CARDIFF – the launch platform sits on top of the hotel roof, 45 metres up, that’s more than twice as high as the William Pye Water Tower next to the Millennium Centre. Access to the roof is through a hatch via a steep ladder which can be disconcerting for some riders.
Rest assured our team of trained Zip Wire Instructors will do everything to support and encourage you to enjoy the amazing experience, but never force you or make you feel pressured.
If you decide not to launch, do your best to get some good photos at the top and then you’ll be able to return to ground on foot. Please note that if you do decide not to ride, a refund will not be offered.
